EAST LONDON - The spirit of youth football was on full display this past weekend as the Ibhola Ekhatywayo Ngamantombazana Festival Games took over Greenfields, hosted at Kuswag Primary School in East London. Ten teams participated in this vibrant event aimed at empowering young girls through sport.

SHOCK UPSET FOR DEFENDING CHAMPIONS

The tournament kicked off with a dramatic upset in the senior division as defending champions Scenery Lions were stunned by Ndevana Ladies, who triumphed 2–0. Goals from Nandile Tempi and Amkela Mhambi sealed the win, setting the tone for a day full of surprises.

UNDER-15 ACTION: ANGELS OUTSHINE QUEENS

In the U/15 division, Zwelitsha Queens faced off against Breidbach Angels in an all-King clash. The Angels came out on top with a convincing 3–1 victory. Erin Fourie secured a brace, while Joslin Jantjies added another for the Angels. The Queens managed a consolation goal via Feni, but it wasn’t enough to turn the tide.

MDANTSANE UNITED DOMINATES SENIOR DIVISION

Mdantsane United made a strong statement in their first match against Westbank Eagles, securing a 2–1 win thanks to a brace by Uyathandwa Mhlalasa. Though Siya managed to pull one back for the Eagles, it wasn’t enough to stop the Mdantsane momentum.

Perfferville Lillies also impressed, comfortably beating All Stars Ladies FC 2–0, with goals from Tiarrah Msiza and Zukhanye Vuyelele.

TOP OF THE TABLE CLASH: MDANTSANE VS SCENERY LIONS

In a high-stakes battle between league front-runners, Mdantsane United once again prevailed—this time over reigning champions Scenery Lions. Another two goals from the in-form Uyathandwa Mhlalasa secured the 2–1 victory, pushing Mdantsane United to the top of the league standings. Amyoli Ngalo scored the lone goal for the Lions in a valiant but ultimately unsuccessful effort.

In the follow-up match, Ginsberg stormed to a 3–1 victory, thanks to a hat-trick by Ncubeko Mhleli. Siya managed a late goal for Braelyn.

WESTBANK EAGLES BOUNCE BACK

Despite an earlier loss, Westbank Eagles returned strong in their clash with Ndevana Ladies, winning 3–2. Ezama Paul and Miliswa Scout (who netted a brace) led the charge, while Sinothando Makheta, captain of Ndevana Ladies, kept her team in the contest with two goals of her own.
